FA Trophy: Wilkin looks for a good run to boost confidence
Manager Kevin Wilkin saw his side slip to a 3-2 against Stalybridge Celtic ahead of this weekend’s second round tie and will be hoping another cup competition can lift his players.
Saints were made to pay for some poor defending against Celtic and they also had Luke Graham sent off in the second half.
He said: “You want to win every game you play, no matter what competition it is, that breeds confidence. If you get a decent draw you can go all the way to the final in this competition.”
But Wilkin did not hide his consternation at the flaws in his side’s performance against Stalybridge.
He said: “We took the game to them and passed the ball well creating some gilt-edged chances. But games are won at both ends of the pitch and we were poor in both boxes.
“They were awful goals to give away, you cannot ship goals like that and expect to get anything out of a game.
“We should have scored more goals because we played some very good football at times but we let the game get away from us and that was very frustrating.”
