Banbury United sign former Australia U19 international - he made global headlines in 2021
Banbury United have confirmed the signing of ex-Australia Under-19 international Joshua Cavallo ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Cavallo, who made global headlines in 2021 when he became the first man to come out as gay while playing professional top-flight football, adds character and experience to Kelvin Langmead’s squad.

The 26-year-old racked up 52 senior appearances for Adelaide United between 2020 and 2024, while he played nine times competitively for fellow Australian outfit Western United.
More recently, Cavallo decided to move to England in 2025, joining Peterborough Sports for his first experience of football in this country.
Cavallo left Peterborough Sports last December after just four National League North appearances, joining Stamford AFC on a free transfer.
Now, just seven months later, the Aussie has decided to make Banbury his new home. Head coach Langmead hopes Cavallo can continue his progression with the Puritans.
Capable of playing in several positions including attacking midifeld, defensive midfield, left wing and left-back, Cavallo should be able to help Banbury in a host of roles.
Cavallo becomes the Puritans’ fifth signing of the summer after Joey Evans, Levi Steele, Oran Jackson and Harrison Mole.
His arrival brings Banbury’s total squad size to 13, including eight players retained from last season.
