Special film screening at The Light cinema documents Banbury doctor’s work in Gaza
A special screening of a film showing a Banbury surgeon’s work in Gaza will take place at The Light cinema on Monday, September 21.
Prof Nick Maynard’s own description of the efforts going on to save lives in this occupied area of Palestine were detailed in a Banbury Guardian profile last month – see here and gallery here.

With global media barred by the Israeli Government from entering Gaza to report independently, only one group - international doctors - have been able to breach the blockade and see for themselves what has been happening to Palestinians living there.
The film prominently features Nick Maynard, Professor of Gastro-intestinal (GI) Surgery at the Oxford University Hospitals Trust (OUH), who also works in Banbury.

It gives his and other doctors’ first-hand accounts, showing visceral footage of the daily struggles of healthcare workers as they navigate bombed-out hospitals, dwindling supplies, starvation and the overwhelming influx of casualties - predominantly women and children.
A reviewer described ‘Life Support’ as ‘the most powerful, urgent film you are ever likely to see’.
In the Banbury Guardian feature, Prof Maynard – chairman of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) said he was too focused on the urgency of his work to feel frightened, despite the horrors surrounding him. It is hoped he will be speaking at a public event in Banbury next month.
The special screening has been facilitated by Banbury area volunteers and community groups. The screening will be followed by an informal gathering and discussion with refreshments.
‘Life Support’ starts at 8pm. A booking link is here.
