Banburyshire village welcomes screening of Dalai Lama - in his own words
A Banbury area group supporting Tibet has organised a screening from California, of The Great 14th – the Dalai Lama in his own words.
Sibfords for Tibet will welcome visitors to the screening at Sibford Village Hall at 2.30pm on Saturday, September 19.

The film tells the story of Tenzin Gyatso - the 14th Dalai Lama – as both subject and narrator as he presents the full arc of his epic and very public life.
The feature, directed by Rosemary Rawcliffe, has attempted to capture the essence of one of the most legendary lives of our time.
"His is a boundless and heroic life filled with extraordinary loss, resilience and achievement – and a man whose philosophy of kindness continues to inspire millions of people around the world, regardless of faith or political persuasion,” she said.
In this profound and inspiring portrait of the 14th Dalai Lama, through intimate conversations and previously unreleased archival footage and images, the Dalai Lama reveals his story and his experience of the personal, political, spiritual and historical events that shaped his life.
The Great 14th offers an unprecedented insight into the complexities of his life—from past lives of the 5th and 13th Dalai Lamas to his current life as the spiritual and former political leader of Tibet and as a tireless Nobel Peace Laureate.
“It is a story for the ages, revealing the soul of the simple monk who aspires every day to walk the enlightened path of the Bodhisattva,” says event organiser Diana Hughes.
“Based on intimate conversations, it’s a portrait both profound and inspiring. From childhood to adulthood, through his lifelong quest for democracy, the true nature of power and the nobility of our humanity is revealed.”
The screening will include a brief introductory talk by Tenzin Kunga, Secretary of the Office of Tibet, London.
Tickets are £5 for adults, free for school-age children, and can be purchased in advance (preferably) from [email protected] or Sue Tompkins at [email protected]
Doors will open at 1.45pm when non alcoholic refreshments will be served. Any profits will be given to a Tibetan charity.
