Banbury and District Samaritans branch is encouraging the local community to break open the biscuits and the taboos on Monday 19 January for its annual Brew Monday campaign, which aims to dispel the myth of ‘Blue Monday’.

This year volunteers from Banbury and District Samaritans will be greeting commuters at Banbury station on Monday 19th January from 6am – 12noon. Volunteers from the branch will be handing out tea bags and chatting to passengers about how a conversation can be lifesaving.

Banbury and District Samaritans branch is encouraging the local community to break open the biscuits and the taboos on Monday 19 January for its annual Brew Monday campaign, which aims to dispel the myth of ‘Blue Monday’.

It follows a recent survey by Samaritans which found one in five people never talk about their feelings (18%) while a further fifth only talk about their feelings once a month (20%).*

The suicide prevention charity is centred on the power of human connection, and its awareness campaign encourages people to come together and have a conversation with someone they are worried about because it could save a life.

Banbury and District Samaritans Branch Director said: “We answer a call every 10 seconds and know first-hand how a conversation where someone shares how they feel can be life changing. Brew Monday is an opportunity for everyone to check in with those we care about. Making time for anyone we might be worried about to have a chat and tell us how they are really feeling. It might seem simple to some or impossible to others, but we know the difference it can make to someone who is struggling.

“So, let’s pop on those kettles, break out those bourbons and turn small talk in to big talk. It might just save someone’s life.”
