Banbury United snap up Birmingham City and MK Dons academy products in triple transfer swoop

Banbury United are up to eight summer signings after announcing three new acquisitions in quick succession.

The latest Puritans additions are all either teenagers or in their early twenties, continuing head coach Kelvin Langmead’s approach of bringing in youngsters with potential.

Ben Nash was the first of the trio confirmed by the club, signing in from MK Dons’ under-18 side.

The winger, who follows in the footsteps of new Banbury teammate and ex-MK Dons man Joel Anker, was initially on trial with the Puritans.

Nash played brilliantly in pre-season fixtures against Easington and Northampton Town, convincing Langmead to take the plunge and sign him permanently.

Another attacking-minded player to join is playmaker Rico Patterson, who arrives as a free agent following his departure from Stratford Town.

Patterson, 22, came through Birmingham City’s academy before spending the 2024/25 season at Cymru Premier outfit Aberystwyth Town.

While with Aberystwyth, Patterson contributed two goals and one assist in 24 league outings. He also had a spell with Rushall Olympic in the National League North.

That’s not all, as Banbury have also signed up Otis Castle on a dual registration with Oxfordshire neighbours Kidlington FC.

The versatile right-sided youngster has been allowed to further his progression with Banbury after an impressive trial period in pre-season.

Castle will be available to represent both the Puritans and Kidlington throughout 2026/27, gaining valuable experience with the two teams.

Including eight retained players and eight signings, Banbury’s squad size is now up to 16 ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Puritans’ first Southern League Premier Central fixture is away at Bishop’s Stortford at 3pm on Saturday, August 8.
