Deddington residents to raise a glass for Katharine House Hospice at upcoming wine festival
Money raised from this year’s Deddington Wine Festival - which returns next month- will be donated to the Katharine House Hospice.
The popular festival will return for its third year at Deddington’s Windmill Centre on Saturday, October 3.
Since 2024, residents of Deddington and nearby villages have come together to enjoy high-quality wine and celebrate the memory of much-loved local man Charlie Elvin.
Each year, festival organisers choose a different charity to support, with this year’s proceeds going towards Adderbury’s Katharine House Hospice.

Charlie received care from the hospice, and his wife Alex has praised the great work it does.
Alex said: “Charlie Elvin, my late husband, went to Katharine House for various interventions to help his mobility, which had been severely affected by prostate cancer and chemotherapy.
“The nurses were full of joy and lightness, happy to tolerate his gallows humour, and so most of the visits were unexpectedly packed with laughter.
“During Covid, with no visitors allowed in hospitals, the nurse planned for him to receive medical treatment in hospital and then move to Katharine House, where he could have his own room, enabling me and the kids to see him. Sadly, he didn’t make it, but the effort to find a way we could be with him at the end meant a great deal.
“For me, the most memorable part was the personal support that Katharine House gave me as his wife and carer. When life feels completely beyond your control, knowing there are people you can call is enormously reassuring and exactly what we needed.”
This year’s event will feature a selection of wines chosen by experts to showcase the six major wine grape varietals.
Tables will be set up in the centre showcasing the best Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache/Garnacha, Syrah/Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
Alongside the wines on offer, local chef Gregg Brown will be supplying delicious party food and snacks.
The festival will also feature an auction with a wide range of prizes.
