Residents at a Banbury care home have shown their support for the Puritans ahead of the club’s FA Cup first qualifying round clash this Saturday, (September 5).

FA Cup fever has already reached Highmarket House care home, after several residents joined Banbury United’s first team for a special training session.

They met players and staff before community coach Ryan Jones put them through their paces with a goalscoring session.

The residents also enjoyed sharing memories of Banbury United teams of the past before staying to watch the first team train ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup clash.

Claire Dumbreck, club secretary at Banbury United FC, said: “Everyone benefits when a community club gets new people through the gate, and we are really enjoying the support from the Highmarket House team and its lovely staff and residents.

“It doesn’t matter what age you are or your level of mobility, sport has the power to put smiles on faces and bring people together, and that’s exactly what this special training session showed.

“We had such fantastic support from the town in last season’s FA Cup run and a big crowd pushes the players on. We hope the people of Banbury come out again this time round and play their important part.”

Banbury United will face Exmouth Town at Banbury’s TUGO Community Stadium on Saturday, September 5, with kick-off at 3pm.

The Highmarket House residents took part in a special goalscoring session led by Banbury United’s community team.

The Puritans will be hoping to build on last season’s FA Cup run, when they reached the Fourth Qualifying Round before being knocked out by St Albans City, just one round away from the First Round proper.
