Scrooge returns to tackle the housing crisis in a witty new festive sequel just down the road in Oxford
Running from 9 to 29 December 2026.
North Oxfordshire theatre-goers looking for a fun and thought-provoking festive night out this winter can catch a brand-new comedy sequel to a timeless classic, playing just a short journey down the A4260 in Oxford.

A Christmas Carol Continues—written by acclaimed comedian and Every Brilliant Thing co-creator Jonny Donahoe alongside Conor O’Toole—makes its world premiere at Oxford’s Old Fire Station this December.
Running from 9 to 29 December 2026, the production revisits Charles Dickens’ famous miser seven years after his iconic ghostly redemption. While Ebenezer Scrooge is now a good man trying to do right by his community, his core social position remains unchanged: he is still a wealthy landlord and moneylender. When Jacob Marley and the spirits return on Christmas Eve with unfinished business, they show Scrooge that personal kindness alone isn't enough to counteract the impact of systemic wealth, satirising exploitative landlords and drawing sharp parallels with today's housing crisis.

The show marks the eighth year of the Old Fire Station’s popular in-house Christmas productions. The venue shares its building with the homelessness charity Crisis, and the play continues the venue’s tradition of blending comedy with important conversations around hardship, housing insecurity, and modern inequality.
Writer Jonny Donahoe, who began his career at the Old Fire Station at age 17, said of the production:
"In 2026, we're surrounded by Scrooges who hoard insane levels of wealth and gatekeep the happiness of those around them through greed and exploitation. We don't call them misers anymore—we call them billionaires. We wanted to write a new version that takes Dickens' brilliant ideas even further, creating a show that is as joyful and funny as possible, but with a vital new moral for today."
Directed by Jess Edwards, the cast features Jack Wilkinson as Scrooge, alongside Vera Léa des Garets and Merab Halema Hussain.
