Banburyshire GP surgery is rated 'good' after focused inspection
Patients gave high praise for the service provided by their Banburyshire GP surgery in a Care Quality Commission inspection.
The patients of Fenny Compton Surgery said staff were ‘extremely helpful and knowledgeable and treated them with kindness and compassion’. The good feedback was shared by 89% of patients who responded to a survey, against a national average of 77%.
The surgery was the subject of a focused inspection on August 28. It was a deep dive into the surgery’s work because of the time since the previous visit by Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors.
The GP practice delivers services to approximately 5,200 people. It is based in High Street, Fenny Compton and has a branch site at Shenington. The practice has its own dispensaries onsite.

Inspectors found that staff kept facilities clean and maintained equipment appropriately to ensure people were kept safe. They assessed and managed the risk of infection well and took steps to control the risk of it spreading. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience.
Staff supported people to live healthier lives, monitoring their care and treatment to ensure they received positive and consistent outcomes.
Staff treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.
People could access care, treatment and support when they needed it. Leaders and staff were alert to discrimination and inequality that could disadvantage groups of people who used the service and sought ways to address any barriers.
The service had a clear vision and strategy, which considered the needs of the people who used their service and the wider community. Staff understood their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders accounted for the actions, behaviours and performance of staff through clear and effective governance processes.
In its report, the inspection team said: “As part of our assessment, we reviewed feedback from people who used the service to understand their views and experience of the service.
"This included reviewing patient feedback available to us. People were eager to share their positive views about the quality of their care and treatment.
"They described how staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable and treated them with kindness and compassion. This was mirrored in the results of recent surveys, including the 2026 National GP Patient Survey, which showed people were very satisfied.
"The percentage of respondents to the survey who responded positively to the overall experience of their GP practice was 89% which is above the national average of 77%. There was an active patient participation group (PPG) which represented the views of people using the service. Representatives from the PPG described how leaders made positive changes because of feedback.
“We undertook this assessment due to the length of time since our last assessment. We assessed ten quality statements from across all five key questions. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery,” inspectors said in a report published this week.
The surgery was rated good under the headings safe, effective, caring, responsive, well lead and overall.
