93-year-old Banbury care home resident makes tee-rific return to golf course
A resident at a care home in Banbury has enjoyed a par-fect return to a sport close to his heart.

Philip, who lives at Care UK’s Seccombe Court on the Gardner Way, had his wish to get back onto a golf course granted.
The 93-year-old had been desperate to return to the fairway, so the team at Seccombe Court arranged a visit to Rye Hill golf course.
His daughter brought in his beloved plus twos so he could look the part for his outing, and he was able to strike the ball once again, as well as having a go at driving the golf buggy. He even made it to the 19th hole - golfer’s slang for a visit to the pub after a round.
Reflecting on his experience, Philip said: “It was absolutely wonderful to be back on a golf course. I was pleased I managed to hit the ball every time I swung. The staff at the course were incredibly kind and went out of their way to help us.”
Philip’s experience was made possible thanks to Care UK’s Wishing Tree initiative, which encourages residents to suggest ideas for new hobbies they’d like to try, places they’d like to visit or even activities linked to past careers. From skiing to a fish and chip supper, the programme is designed to help residents lead fulfilling lives.
Wojciech Kuczkowski, Home Manager at Seccombe Court, said: “We know how important it is to help people continue enjoying the hobbies that have shaped their lives. Golf has always been a big part of Philip’s identity, so arranging this special visit meant a great deal to everyone involved.
“It was wonderful to see him back on the course, completely in his element, sharing stories and enjoying every moment. We’re very grateful to everyone at Rye Hill for helping to make the day such a swing-ing success.”
