A solitary goal from Michael Nottingham sunk Saints as second-placed Salford took all three Vanarama National League North points.

City ran out 1-0 winners at St James Park where they maintained their promotion push and, at the same time, dented Town’s play-off bid.

The season’s biggest league attendance at St James Park saw Nottingham’s eighth goal of the campaign separate the two sides in Saturday’s close-fought contest.

Wilkin said: “It was a disappointing result. In the first half we played well but our final ball was poor. We didn’t test the keeper enough and conceded a scruffy goal.

“We didn’t take a good chance in the second half and, credit to Salford, who managed the game well. We lost a bit of composure and lost our way a little.

“We didn’t make good decisions at times and gave some cheap balls away. We were caught offside too often and that made it easier for them.”
