Tickets available for evening in Banbury with Gaza surgeon Prof Nick Maynard
Tickets can be booked for next week’s talk in Banbury by life-saving Gaza surgeon Prof Nick Maynard.
Bookings can be made via Eventbrite here. Tickets are free; donations will be invited on the night.

Prof Maynard is a recently retired consultant cancer surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals Trust and may have treated you or someone you know, at local hospitals including the Horton, the Churchill and the JR.
For the past 16 years he has been travelling to Gaza and the West Bank to teach medical students and to carry out and teach specialist cancer surgery.

Since October 7 he has made several trips to Gaza to work as part of Medical Aid for Palestinians Emergency Medical Teams, leading the first EMT into Gaza in December 2023. See Banbury Guardian reports here and here.
Next Wednesday, October 28 at 7.15pm he will host an evening at the Cornhill Centre, Banbury talking about his life-saving work in Gaza as a surgeon during the conflict, while on leave from his work with Oxfordshire patients.
The event is being co-organised by Nicky Smith, whose mother, Carmen Guard was born in Bethlehem 92 years ago.
"This is a rare opportunity to hear first-hand from someone who was working on the front line in Gaza, while we could only watch and wonder from our homes,” she said.
“What was it really like? How did he survive and carry out surgery in such difficult conditions? What is it like now and how can we be part of the healing process?
“For every year of my mother’s life the Palestinians have suffered and been oppressed by the earliest Zionists and now the state of Israel. The world has watched and often not believed what has been happening,” she said.
“I am very grateful to Prof Maynard for giving this talk and creating an opportunity for people to hear, in person, from someone who has recent experience of life in Gaza. His medical skills and compassion are extraordinary and I recommend this talk to anyone who is interested in understanding what is happening and how they can help those still suffering today.”
Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7.15pm start at the Cornhill Centre Castle St, Banbury OX16 5NT. The event is free to attend with donations invited to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
