Plans to open new arts space for young people at Banbury's Castle Quay revealed

Plans to transform an empty unit at Banbury’s Castle Quay into a new arts space for young people have been revealed.

The project will see local youth theatre charity People’s Theatre Collective convert the vacant unit into a space for young people.

Named The People’s House, the space will provide opportunities for young people under 25 to learn, create and perform in the heart of the town.

The People’s House is the latest step in Castle Quay's move from being a traditional shopping centre to a community hub for retail, activities and events.

Oliver Wren, centre director at Castle Quay, said: “The proposed arts space is a fantastic example of the type of opportunity we are keen to support at Castle Quay. Town centres are changing, and successful destinations need to offer much more than shopping alone.

“We are proud to have created a diverse mix of retail, leisure, health, education and cultural uses that bring people into the centre throughout the week.

“This latest addition will further strengthen Castle Quay's role as a destination where people can come together, discover new experiences and enjoy everything the centre has to offer.”

Alongside The People’s House, Castle Quay is now home to the award-winning The School For Stars dance school, various NHS services, Cherwell District Council offices and a Kumon education centre.

Plans are also underway to relocate Banbury Library to Castle Quay and to open a multi-storey soft play centre there in the coming months.
