The 4x4 was believed to have collided with a lorry at around 1.45pm between junction 12 Gaydon and junction 11 Banbury.

It was unrelated to an earlier crash between two HGVs on the same stretch of motorway, although the two separate crashes caused long delays all the way back to Warwick Services.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The 4×4 had come to rest on its side near the central reservation.

“The man driving the 4×4, believed to be in his early 40s, had suffered minor injuries and was checked over at the scene by medics. The man declined further treatment and was discharged.

“No one else was injured in the crash.

“Considering the circumstances of the crash and the damage to the vehicle the man was very fortunate not to have suffered more serious injuries.”
