Ambulance crashes on M40 while transferring two-year-old patient

The trust is carrying out an internal investigation and working with police to establish the cause of the incident, which happened at about 4am.

The vehicle was transferring a the child and her mother from Warwick Hospital to the Horton General Hospital in Banbury, and two ambulances, two paramedic officers, the MERIT trauma doctor and the Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the scene.

All four travelling in the ambulance were assessed at the scene by the doctor.

The child, who was the patient, and her mother were then taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital.

The crew were taken to Warwick Hospital as a precaution. The driver was unhurt while the attendant, who was travelling in the back with the patient, had minor abrasions.
