Haas F1 Team confirm new driver signing as Esteban Ocon's replacement: Rafa Camara’s first words and career so far
Rafael Camara will race for TGR Haas F1 Team for the 2027 season and beyond, replacing the outgoing Esteban Ocon.
The 21-year-old Brazilian has signed a multi-year contract with the Banbury-based Haas as he makes an exciting first step into Formula 1.

Currently the leader of the Formula 2 Championship as a driver for Invicta Racing, Camara has enjoyed feature race victories in Spain, Belgium and Azerbaijan so far this season.
In what has been his debut F2 campaign, Camara has certainly excelled after his promotion, earned by winning the Formula 3 Championship in 2025.
Rumours have been swirling for a while now that Camara would be Ocon’s successor, not least due to the fact that he tested a previous Haas car in Portugal in August.
Haas’ team principal, Ayao Komatsu, said: “I’m really excited to sign such a young, amazing talent like Rafael Camara.
“I don’t need to tell everyone about his achievements in the junior formulas, it’s been very impressive.
“In his rookie season in Formula 2, the speed he’s shown in some very difficult moments, like qualifying in Monaco and Montreal – that all goes to show the potential Rafa has.
“He showed when we had him drive in our TPC program in Portugal that he could handle himself very well with not a huge amount of time to learn the car, he showed us more than just raw speed.
“Rafa managed to create an environment to get the best out of himself, it was very impressive and certainly the laps he completed were special.
“We’re all excited about this opportunity and really committed as Haas to nurture this talent and provide a place where he can flourish.
“We want to create an environment where he’s comfortable and supported, where he can really excel in his capabilities.”
With two races to go in the F2 season, Camara’s sights are firmly set on securing the title before he joins up with Haas. But that hasn’t stopped the Brazilian from getting excited about his new challenge.
“I’m very happy to be joining Haas as a Formula 1 driver,” Camara said.
“It’s an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas (owner) and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me.
“I’m also very grateful to the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy for their support and for everything they have contributed to my development over the years, as well as to my family for always being there throughout this journey.
“Now my focus is on preparing myself in the best possible way for this new challenge. There will be a lot to learn, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the team, understanding the car and continuing to develop as a driver.”
When the 2027 season begins in Bahrain in March, Camara will become the 34th Brazilian driver to compete in F1. The 33rd, Gabriel Bortoleto, remains on the grid with Audi.
At Haas, Camara will partner British driver Oliver Bearman, who is entering his third year with the Banbury team.
