Football club urges support for fundraiser set up in memory of Banbury girl killed in crash

A Banbury football club has urged the local community to support a fundraiser set up in memory of Esme Heaton-Biggs, who tragically died in a car crash.

Easington Sports Football Club has paid tribute to 18-year-old Esme Heaton-Biggs at its last home game on Saturday, October 10.

Players wore black armbands during the match and held a minute’s silence before kick-off.

The club, which is located close to where the fatal crash took place, also invited members of Esme’s family to attend the game.

Jamie Hunter, secretary of Easington Sports Football Club, said: “Some of our players were very good friends with Esme and asked whether we could accommodate Esme’s family and friends for the game.

“We as a club were happy to host them and we were grateful the family took the time to spend the afternoon with us.

“We did a minute’s silence at the beginning of the game and the players and club have made a donation to the GoFundMe page set up in tribute to Esme.”

The club is now urging the community to get behind the fundraiser and help it raise further donations.

Jamie added: “The club and players are very grateful for any further support to the fundraiser.”

The online fundraiser, which had an initial target of £3,000, has far exceeded expectations and has so far raised £14,643.

All money raised through the appeal, set up by family friend Robyn Holtham, will be donated to Banbury charity Dogs for Good, reflecting Esme’s love of dogs and her dream of one day working for the organisation.
