Dementia UK to offer advice at pop-up clinic in Banbury Nationwide branch

Specialist nurses from Dementia UK will hold a free pop-up advice clinic at Nationwide’s Banbury branch.

The free confidential and in-person clinics will run at the Nationwide branch in Banbury Market Place on Tuesday, November 3.

They are open to anyone impacted by dementia, and will provide practical and emotional advice on all aspects of dementia.

This includes concerns about symptoms, getting diagnosis and understanding how the condition can progress.

Lesley Potter, admiral nurse at Dementia UK, said: “We’re looking forward to returning to Oxfordshire to offer support and advice to families affected by dementia. Since launching our partnership with Nationwide Building Society, we have seen the difference it can make to bring specialist dementia support into local communities.

“These clinics give people the chance to speak to an Admiral Nurse about any aspect of dementia, from understanding a diagnosis to finding practical support in a safe and accessible place, helping to ensure no one faces dementia alone.”

Alongside attending the clinic Dementia UK advises families of people living with dementia to ask about follow-up appointments, who to contact for ongoing support, to seek help managing medication and talk openly with family and friends about a diagnosis.

The charity also recommends planning ahead by considering future care preferences and arranging a Lasting Power of Attorney, as well as exploring carer’s assessments, benefits and other financial support that may help ease the pressures of caring for someone with dementia.
