McDonald off as Saints go down at Nuneaton

It was a game in which Saints never really looked like taking anything from and it ended with Curtis McDonald being shown a red card.

Nuneaton took charge from the start, taking a second minute lead, and never let up on a sobering evening for a laboured Saints. Harewood struck the goal from left back James Reid’s cross and the ‘Boro enjoyed excellent chances to extend the lead during a one-sided first half.

Aaron Williams twice went close and Harewood could have bagged a second on the stroke of halftime. Saints were fortunate to go into the break just the one goal behind but came out for the second half stronger and enjoyed periods of better possession.

Sam Smith’s surging run deserved better but Saints rarely threatened and it was the hosts who remained more likely to add to the score breaking with pace and invention.

Town’s best move of the game came after 72 minutes as Glenn Walker found substitute Deon Burton who slid the ball across goal but the danger was cleared. McDonald was sent off in the 78th minute for a late challenge to crown a poor night for the visitors as Nuneaton made it two wins out of two.
