Body of 80-year-old man found in Banbury canal

The body of the man was recovered from the stretch of the canal that runs alongside Southam Road just after 3.30pm.

The police are treating it as unexplained but not suspicious, while the file is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “Very sadly, a man, aged in his eighties, was recovered from the water, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"His next of kin have been made aware, and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.”
