Banbury will be going back to the future this year with the launch of a major new addition to the calendar.

The Banbury Victorian Christmas Market will run for three days at the end of November and is masterminded by the team behind the hugely-successful events in Stratford, Oxford and elsewhere.

It will run from Friday, November 25 until Sunday, November 27 and is expected to feature 100 stalls based around the Market Place, plus street performers and live entertainment.

LSD Promotions has linked up with Banbury BID - and supported by the town and district councils - to create an event which has drawn thousands of people to the Stratford equivalent, with the aim of encouraging people to enjoy the market and discover the range of shops in the town.

More details will be released in September but LSD has started to invite applications from traders who want to be involved. BID businesses will be able to have the opportunity of having 50 per cent off their pitch fee this year, but must operate their stall across all three days.

To help create the spirit, everyone running a stall must adopt Victorian dress during trading hours - which are set to be 10am-8pm on the Friday and Saturday, followed by 10am-6pm on the Sunday, coinciding with the Christmas lights switch-on organised by the town council.

And LSD are very upbeat about how this can work: “With a little creative thought and improvisation, it is easy to put your own outfit together.

“There were various styles and representations of the Victorian era. Affluent, elegant ladies and gentlemen of the time, fine dresses with bustles, feathered hats and parasols, waistcoated gents in top hats, pocket watches and walking canes.

“On the flip side, there were rogues, pick pockets, flower sellers, chimney sweeps and ladies of the night, poverty and dirty faces.”Banbury BID lead town host Terry John Jones said: “I'm really pleased Banbury BID have secured this amazing event. I previously worked in Stratford-upon-Avon as town host manager for the last six years and I know what a positive impact this will be for Banbury.

“I hope all our businesses embrace this wonderful occasion and make it a fantastic success.”Banbury BID strategist Jasmine Gilhooly said: “I, like Terry, worked in Stratford and really felt the ultimate buzz that was brought into town for LSD's Victorian Market.

“I was lucky enough to be able to create videos containing products sold by the businesses and shot by Banbury photographer Sam Bennett, that were able to be shown on the big screen.

“I am really looking forward to doing the same thing in Banbury, especially supporting our local and independent businesses over a really exciting time.

"Banbury is my home town so I am really passionate about seeing the town thrive.”

Jon Holliday, LSD Promotions business development manager, said: “We are extremely excited to partner with Banbury BID to bring this hugely successful event to the Town. The magical atmosphere this event creates is second-to-none and will make long-lasting wonderful memories for locals and visitors. This is a brand new location for LSD Promotions and we can’t wait to deliver this prestigious event to make a positive impact on Banbury, it’s locals and businesses.”
