The award-winning Youth of Banbury Operatic Society are returning to the stage with their production of the West End hit Legally Blonde.

Winner of three Lawrence Olivier Awards, including the Best New Musical Award, the feel-good show promises to the audience’s feet tapping and senses tingling.

It tells the story of Elle Woods, who appears to have it all: looks, fantastic friends and the most popular boy in school, Warner.

Confident that Warner is taking her out to propose to her, she is shocked when he dumps her for someone more ‘serious’. Elle decides to prove she can also be serious and follows him to Harvard Law School, where her look and ditsy persona is at odds with her fellow law students. Elle sets out to prove that you should never judge a book by its cover!

Legally Blonde is directed by Ben Coleman, with Robbie Fell as choreographer and Joe Cummings as musical director.

Ben said: “We are beyond thrilled to be performing Legally Blonde this year, which is a firm favourite for many of us on the production team as well as the cast.

“We are so excited to once again be working with over 50 of the area’s most talented actors and technicians. They have thrown themselves into this challenging yet exhilarating production with real enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see the finished result.”

The society is a non-profit-making group created in 2003, giving ten to 19-year-olds in the Banbury and north Oxfordshire area a taste of what it takes to be in a musical production. The group specialises in putting on each production in just one week in the summer holidays, with casting and three initial workshops taking place in the months prior to their summer performance dates.

Volunteers from the group’s parent society - Banbury Operatic Society - have given up their time and expertise to lend their expertise.

Legally Blonde will be performed at the Wykham Theatre, Banbury Academy on Friday August 12 at 7.30pm and Saturday August 13 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £8 for under-16s. Visit or visit Anker & Partner Estate Agents, 31 High Street, Banbury OX16 5ER to book.
