Bloxham School student Charlie Bygate will make his debut for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in the opening night performance of The Shoemaker’s Holiday tonight (Thursday).

First form student Charlie will be performing the role of ‘Boy’ in the performance of Thomas Dekker’s comedy, produced by the RSC at The Swan Theatre in Stratford upon Avon.

Charlie will share the role of ‘Boy’ with two other boys, William Watson and Sebastian Dibb, with the three young actors alternating in the role.

Charlie has been rehearsing hard over the past couple of months, working with RSC voice and movement experts and meeting some well-known faces from the stage.

The play, which was originally performed on New Year’s Eve 1599, follows the rise to power of shoemaker Simon Eyre, who eventually makes it to the position of Lord Mayor of London.

The Shoemaker’s Holiday is directed by Phillip Breen and runs in repertoire at the RSC’s Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon until March 7. For the box office visit www.rsc.org.uk or call 0844 800 1110.
