World Champion boxer heading to Banbury
John H Stracey began his professional boxing career in 1969 with a KO win. He went on to win his next 11 fights.
In 1974, Stracey, the them reigning European Welterweight Champion, got his first world title shot stopping champion Jose Napoles in the sixth round in front of the champions home crowd in Mexico City.

Hide AdStracey retired from boxing in 1978 with a record of 45 wins 5 loses and 1 draw, with 37 KO's.
After retirement Stracey went into the entertainment industry touring the world as a singer with the likes of Johnny Mathis.
The event will take place this Friday, February 7, at the Hanwell Arms pub in Rotary Way from 7.30pm.
Entry is free and the event promises an evening of 'music and memories' with the boxer followed by music by DJ Curley.
John will bring his championship belt along for picture opportunities for donations to the hospice.
There will also be a raffle and a sports memorabilia auction.
