Thespians wanted for Banbury auditions

The play, a funny, quirky, dark and shocking story of revenge and greed revolces around a scorned wife, a belittled mistress and a husband who wants to have his cake and eat it.

Set in the 1950s to a backdrop of Elvis Presely tunes, beehives, brothel creepers and jiving, the play will be performed cabaret-style with the audience sat at tables, enjoying 1950s refreshments and getting a chance to try their hand at jiving.

The audience will be encouraged to dress in 1950s costume and the actors will mingle with the audience engaging them in the plotting and final revenge.

The relatively short full length play has no interval and, although food plays a major role in the development of the story-line, there is no actual food. In fact the play relies on props at all, they are all mimed.

Hilary and Kenneth are the main protagonists and have been married for nearly 20 years. As middle-age approaches, Kenneth finds himself in the arms of another woman, Laura, a fling that gets out of hand and his world spirals into deceit and lies.

Finally he is forced to leave Hilary but the only problem is that Laura can’t cook and Kenneth mourns the loss of his Sunday roasts. He sneaks back to Hilary’s house to sample her culinary skills.

Hilary then invites them both for dinner, but neither has any idea what Hilary has planned.

There will be a read through at the Mill Arts Centre on Tuesday, February 4 from 7.30pm where potential cast members can learn more about the production and what to expect at auditions. The open audition will take place, also at the Mill, on Thursday, February 20 from 7.30pm.

The roles to be filled are; Hilary, the wife aged in her 40s or 50s; Laura, the mistress , aged in her 20s or 30s and Kenneth the husband, aged in his 40s or 50s.

In addition, BCP are seeking an “Elvis look/sound-alike” to be part of the production.

The production runs between May 13 and 16 at The Mill Arts Centre, with cast members needing to be available from Sunday, May 10 technical and dress rehearsals.
