Cropredy Convention organisers 'cautiously optimistic' this year’s festival will take place

The organisers of Fairport's Cropredy Convention have said they are confident the three-day festival will take place this summer.

The announcement follows Prime Minister Boris Johnson laying out a four-step plan for easing coronavirus restrictions by midsummer.

If Covid-19 is under control it is hoped that large outdoor events can take place.

The Cropredy team has said it is 'cautiously optimistic' their festival will be staged over the weekend of August 12 to 14.

Festival organiser Gareth Williams said: “Following the government announcement we are much more confident that Cropredy will take place.

“However, like many other independent festivals, we remain anxious for news about assistance with cancellation insurance.

“To be honest, we haven't taken our foot off the pedal in our preparations for this August and remain committed to presenting a wonderful weekend of music. The line-up remains unchanged and 2020 tickets will be valid for 2021.”

Cropredy takes place annually on the Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire border and attracts some of the biggest names in folk and progressive music.

In recent years, the likes of Levellers, Fish, Paul Carrack, Seth Lakeman, Frank Turner and Level 42 have joined hosts Fairport Convention.

Mr Williams added: “The safety of our customers, staff, artists and local residents is our first consideration.

“It was the main reason we postponed back in April 2020. We'll be working closely with the responsible authorities to keep everyone safe."
