The Youth of Banbury Operatic Society (YOBOS) is auditioning for roles in Legally Blonde, the musical version of the film of the same name.

Auditions for the show take place on Sunday April 24 at Christopher Rawlins Primary School from 2pm until 6pm.

Anyone interested in either performing or working behind the scenes is invited to attend.

Prior to this, from 10am until 1pm, the production team will be running an optional audition prep session where auditionees are invited to practice the scenes and songs before the auditions.

The group is looking for anyone aged between 11 and 19 years old.

Legally Blonde boasts a wide array of characters that appeal to both male and female performers.

With a comedic script and a fantastic score, the show transferred from Broadway to the West End in 2010 where it starred Sheridan Smith in the lead role of Elle Woods. It was a huge success with both critics and audiences and recently enjoyed a successful UK tour.

Elle Woods appears to have it all – she’s popular, has fantastic friends and her boyfriend Warner seems set to propose.

However, her life is turned upside-down when, instead of proposing, Warner dumps her so he can start getting ‘serious’ about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her charm to get into the school as well where she finds Warner is already in love with someone else.

At Harvard, Elle struggles with both peers and professors who see her as an inferior in their intellectual world, but, with the help of hairstylist Paulette and her teaching assistant, Emmett, Elle quickly realises her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.

Legally Blonde welcomes back the production team from YOBOS last production, Grease the Musical, with Ben Coleman directing, Robbie Fell choreographing and Joe Cummings as MD.

“We know auditions can seem like a daunting prospect” said Ben who returns for his fourth year as director. “We have all been in the situation before and know what it feels like so we ensure that we keep the auditions as relaxed as possible and everyone is incredibly supportive of one another.

“We have been fortunate enough to witness some of Banbury’s most talented young performers, many of whom have gone on to top drama schools and working in the industry, and year after year we are always blown away with the talent that the towns young people have to offer.

“We are thrilled to be staging Legally Blonde in the summer and ask anyone with a passion for performing, or the bug for behind the scenes work, to join us at the auditions for what will be a truly rewarding experience.”

YOBOS is a non-profit group created in 2003, as an exciting musical theatre project giving young people in the Banbury and North Oxfordshire area a taste of what it’s like to be in a West End style musical production.
