Wright's season is capped by first place

Banbury Harriers athletes came home with five trophies in Saturday’s division two fixture after the final round at Campbell Park in Milton Keynes.

On a bitterly cold day, the senior men set off on the 8km hilly course led by Wright who came home in second place.

Following a consistent season, Wright was rewarded with first place overall in the senior men’s category.

Wright was followed by Simon Pritchard in 34th, Phil Coy in 87th and fourth M60, Neil Forbes 99th and sixth M60, and Glyn Pritchard 101st and seventh M60.

Coy and Forbes, who have raced in every round of the Chiltern League, were presented with second and third M60 trophies afterwards.

Michael Bishop, of Brackley & District Running Club, finished the season in 11th place overall.

In the senior ladies’ race, Ros Kelling and Michelle Bartlett, carrying on with their ultra-consistent form this season, swapped places on a course cut up after the men’s race.

Picking off athletes who were tiring towards the end of the race, Kelling finished fifth and won the female vet-45 category. Bartlett was sixth and second vet-45, but the duo were separated by just four seconds when they crossed the line.

Joined by Lisa Ansell and Sarah Andrews in 32nd and 37th places respectively, Harriers were first veteran ladies’ team on the day.

But they could not quite make up enough points on the leading teams and had to settle for fourth veteran team overall.
