Wilkin wants Saints to keep believing after vital victory
But Wilkin will now have to focus on next weekend’s clash with AFC Fylde after Monday’s six-pointer with AFC Telford United was postponed following a pitch inspection.
Saints go into the game on the back of an excellent 2-1 victory at Boston United in Saturday’s Vanarama National League North clash.
Substitute Richard Batchelor grabbed what proved to be the stoppage-time winner following David Moyo’s first half opener. Zak Mills pulled a goal back deep into added-time for the play-off chasers but Saints were not to be denied all three points.
Wilkin said: “That was a good response after the defeat at Stalybridge, the conditions were tough but we defended with determination and took our chances at the other end. The terrific support from our noisy fans played its part too.
“There were lots of good performances. Sam Hornby showed good concentration and made excellent saves when called upon, our two new signings Ben Tilner and Jake Phillips made promising first appearances and defensively we were strong.
“Richard [Batchelor] came on late in the game and has good attributes and got the crucial second goal after unselfish play by David [Moyo]. We are not out of the woods by a long way but have to keep believing and keep working.”
