Sandford cruise to victory after Ong impresses again

Sandford inserted the promotion chasers in Saturday’s division two fixture.

Some superbly disciplined bowling from the opening pair of Daniel Jason Smith 3-26 and Chris Thompson set the scene for dismissing Abingdon Vale for a lowly 89.

Again the pick of Sandford’s bowling was Ong who took 3-4 off eight overs.

The hosts made light work of the reply knocking the runs off in only 21 overs for the loss of three wickets. Again the trusted pairing of Colonel Thompson 31no and Phil Nicholas 17no saw Sandford home to a comfortable victory.

Great & Little Tew II returned to winning ways with a six wicket victory over Oxford II.

Tew won the toss and elected to field first and, following a heavy shower and a reduction by six overs, Jack Belmont and Jamie King restricted Oxford to 43-3 from 14 overs.

Ian Bryan then bowled uninterrupted from one end, claiming 4-31 from his 16 overs. With Belmont returning 3-43 Oxford were dismissed for 146 in 49.2 overs.

In reply, Robbie Catling and Markus Jeacock put on 55 for the first wicket in just 12 overs. Both fell in quick succession but David Fanghanel-Powles 30 carried on the momentum.

It was then left to Sam Smith and Josh Garrett to see Tew over the line in the 29th over.

Cropredy lost by seven wickets against Oxford Downs.

Edward Somerton 33 was the only batsman to make a significant contribution as Cropredy were dismissed for 111 runs as Tom Costley 5-37 and Harry Sutton 3-42 did the damage. In reply, Wasim Mehmood 52 led Downs to victory in the 25th over.

Banbury lost by 124 runs against Tiddington in division one.

Matthew Maule 74, Jeff Higgs 50 and Chris Goodman 38 helped Tiddington to 267-7.

In reply, Steve Beck 56 top scored but Max Smith 3-10 and John Ponsford 3-32 skittled Banbury out in the 40th over.

In-form Banbury III beat Horley by five wickets in division three.

James Risbridger took 5-28 and George Tait took 3-50 as Horley were dismissed for 164 runs in which Jamie Abbotts 35 and Dave Eaton 3-44

In reply, Ollie Morgan 73 and Mark Pallett 33no put Banbury on their way to victory in the 38th over.
