Head coach James Kerr says his Banbury Bulls side not only have to keep winning but need to get bonus-point wins if they are to get promoted.

The Midlands Two West leaders entertain Leamington on Saturday and Kerr is expecting another tough derby test despite the Warwickshire club being in the lower reaches.

It’s vitally important we keep getting bonus-point wins

He said: “Any game against Leamington is always a tough one, no matter their position.

“It’s vitally important we keep getting bonus-point wins, that’s what is keeping us ahead of Berkswell & Balsall.”

Looking back on Saturday’s tight victory at Earlsdon, Kerr added: “We got there in the end but we didn’t have as many points on the board as we would have liked in the first half.

“That was a game which we may have lost in the past but we just about edged it. The pitch and the conditions made it very difficult for us and we struggled to keep the ball in hand.

“Earlsdon have got the best defence in the division and they dominated us in the scrums, which we expected. But we always felt comfortable even though the conditions made it difficult for us to play our normal game.

“We had to revert to a kicking game and we were quite clever with it.”
