Head coach Matt Goode knows his Banbury Bulls squad will have to deal with higher expectations this season.
Bulls kick-off their Wadworth 6X South West One East campaign with a couple of trips on the road.
The only way to improve on last season is promotion so that has to be the targetBulls head coach Matt Goode
Witney is the first stop followed by a trip to new boys Beaconsfield. Goode knows Bulls will be one of the favourites, having missed out in the play-off final last season.
Goode said: “We’ve got the squad, including the boys coming in, to really challenge. It’s going to be a tougher league but the boys have performed really well and the only way to improve on last season is promotion so that has to be the target.
“Witney away is always a tough fixture. It was our last game of last season and we did well, so they’ll be looking for revenge.
“Beaconsfield, we don’t know a lot about. We had an opponent in Marlow last year we didn’t know a lot about and we under-performed, and it cost us.
“We can’t underestimate anybody in this league. Chippenham is obviously a big game but all our pre-season will be focused on that game against Witney.”
Besides adding to his playing squad during the summer, Goode has added to his coaching set-up with the addition of Jamie Lakin. And he hopes that could give his side the extra edge when it comes to the fine margins in games.
He added: “Bringing in Jamie Lakin to look at those minute skills can make all the difference.
“Looking over game film will be important but also in training focusing on individuals. I’ve known Jamie a long time and he’ll be a massive benefit to the whole squad.”
