Matt Goode has been appointed youth development officer of Banbury Rugby Union Club with responsibility for enhancing coaching and playing skills across mini, junior and colts age-groups.
Goode is making a welcome return to Bodicote Park, ten years after he played in the colts.
His role will be youth development officer with a brief to develop players and coaches throughout the youth section. In addition, Goode will provide coaching support to the club’s Colts squad and will lead the Under-8s age-group.
Goode will also join the senior playing squad in what already promises to be a very exciting season. His long and distinguished playing career has included being capped for England Under-18s, playing more than 250 national level games and coaching semi-professional rugby at Rugby, Chinnor, Cambridge, Northampton Saints Academy/Wanderers and Sevens, and also working in the Saints community team where he established and leads the HITZ programme.
Chairman John Colegrave said: “I’m delighted to welcome Matt back to the club in a formal capacity. He is a proven talent, as a player and coach, and the whole club is set to benefit tremendously from his input.”
Goode added: “Although I’ve never really been away from Banbury this does feel a bit like coming home. The youth section has grown enormously over the last few years and I can’t wait to help shape its future successes while also developing rugby in the community.
“This will be my 26th consecutive season and what better way to finish playing where I started. I’m looking forward to passing on my experiences over the last ten years to help the club move forward.”
