Nico Rosberg has given Mercedes AMG Petronas a great chance of finishing the season occupying the top two places in the F1 Drivers Championship.
The German driver produced a flawless drive from pole to clinch his fourth win of the season in Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix.
That was the best podium of my lifeNico Rosberg
It was 12th victory of his Formula One career while newly-crowned world champion Lewis Hamilton pushed his Brackley team-mate all the way to finish just two seconds adrift, completing a tenth one-two of the year.
Rosberg’s victory saw him reclaim second position from Sebastian Vettel to sit 21 points clear of his compatriot while Mercedes now lead Ferrari by a massive 243 points in the FIA Constructors Championship.
Rosberg said: “That was the best podium of my life, it was a perfect weekend for me.
“I had a good qualifying and was able to control the race from the front, responding each time Lewis came closer. It was tricky because there was really no grip on the rears especially after the safety car, with cold tyres. But in the end I felt comfortable.”
