Some of the biggest names from the world of motorsport descended on London to celebrate the winners of the prestigious awards, held in association with Mercedes, who were crowned at a spectacular ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London.

Held for the 35th year, the 2016 winners included Rosberg, who was presented with the award for International Racing Driver, and his team-mate, title-challenger and three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who was named British Competition Driver.

The success of Mercedes AMG Petronas was reinforced by the John Bolster Award for technical excellence going to the Brackley team’s executive technical director Paddy Lowe.

Rosberg said: “I came here for the first time 15 years ago and it is the most prestigious motor sport night of the year. To be standing up here, in front of you all, getting this award is amazing.

“The UK is the home of motor sport and I’ve been part of the scene for many years. After 11 years in F1, this is my best year.

“I’ve followed my heart, it wasn’t easy but I did it and it feels good to be going out with the championship. I want to thank the team, without you I couldn’t be here.”
