In the SR1 Cup, Oliver Barker started from the back of the grid after a technical problem, but stormed through to snatch victory on the final lap of his opening race.

A safety car intervention had aided Barker in the first race, but it was more of a handicap in the second. Once again came charging from the back to secure third a lap from home.

Although Steve Burgess did not claim a win in the Radical Challenge, he left the Cheshire Circuit having consolidated his championship lead.

In the first two races he chased former champion Bradley Smith from a race-long second place.

He was comfortably in third in the final race too but a success ballasted pit-stop wrecked his chances overall.

Burgess said: “The safety car spoiled our strategy and cancelled out any advantage we had, especially when everyone stopped together.”

Burgess still managed to finish fifth, while team-mate Joe Stables had a fifth place in race one, before recovering from a first corner spin in race two for ninth place, ending his day on the podium in third overall.
