Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon had to settle for seeing Our Kaempfer finish just outside the places at the Cheltenham Festival.

The seven-year-old came fifth in Thursday’s Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle after a storming finish up the hill, making up several places under Noel Fehily.

Mall Dini won the race with Taglietelle pipping Our Kaempfer for fourth place.

The Hull Farm handler said: “He was 22nd of 24 horses all the way around until halfway down the hill and then he’s had to work hard to come by 17 horses.

“He stayed all the way to the line. The question is, would he get the trip if he was ridden in the middle and the answer is that he probably wouldn’t.

“That’s the problem with having to ride him that way but he has to be held up.”
