Hamilton cruised to victory in Belgium to extend his lead

Lewis Hamilton led every lap of the Belgian Grand Prix to extend his world championship lead.

Hamilton made his one-stop strategy work after pitting early under the safety car, but still led home Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas by eight seconds.

Hamilton said: "It wasn't the easiest of races on those tyres, so it was a bit of a struggle but I was ok.

"I know it's not what everyone always wants to see us at the front, but we keep our heads down, we focus on how to win the next race. I'm 35, but I feel better than ever."

Bottas said: "At the start it would have been a good chance but I didn't really have much of a chance. I just couldn't catch him on the straights. With the same car and Lewis driving mistake-free it's always tricky.

"Lewis was faultless today, but at least it was a clean weekend for me."

Red Bull ace Max Verstappen brought his car home in third, ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in the Renault as he also claimed fastest lap.

Verstappen added: "It was pretty boring, not much for me to do. And I ran out of tyres at the end. It wasn't enjoyable. I didn't have a lot of grip and I couldn't keep up. It got lonely!

"Finishing in P3 was as good as we could do."

Esteban Ocon overtook Alex Albon for fifth on the last lap, who in turn held off Lando Norris who had to settle for seventh.

Pierre Gasly was the Driver of the Day in eighth with a fine drive, ahead of the Racing Point pair of Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez.
