Gasly shocks the world to win at Monza

Pierre Gasly stunned the F1 paddock by winning the Italian Grand Prix - his first in the sport.

The Frenchman capitalised on a safety car and red flag period, which saw Lewis Hamilton penalised heavily for putting when the pitlane was closed, giving up his lead in the process.

Gasly, who was dropped midway through last season by Red Bull Racing, controlled the race after the restart, holding off a late charge from McLaren's Carlos Sainz who had to settle for second.

Lance Stroll rounded out the podium for Racing Stroll - his second career podium.

Lando Norris was fourth ahead of Valtteri Bottas' Mercedes, with Daniel Ricciardo in sixth in the Renault.

Having served his 10-second stop-and-go penalty which dropped him to the back of the field, Hamilton fought back to seventh and set the fastest lap too, ahead of Esteban Ocon, Daniil Kvyat and Sergio Perez.

Max Verstappen was forced into retirement on lap 31 with an engine problem, while Alex Albon was a disappointing 15th in the other Red Bull.
