Central seal success on final day at the sport’s showpiece

Banbury Central brought the Tony Allcock Trophy back to Horton View.

The national title win for county came on the last day of this year’s EBA National Championships at Leamington with Central beating 2016 champions Lindfield from Sussex in the final.

In the quarter-finals at Victoria Park, Central defeated Hemingford from Huntingdonshire 33-32 and in the semi-finals Cove from Hampshire, 38-34

In the final, Central beat Lindfield 47-35 with Mary Tee, Brenda Havard, Nigel Galletly and Michael Andrew winning 20-16 and Eloise Jones, Pam Shepherd, Graham Morbey and Keith McNeil winning 27-19.

Banbury Central also retained the OBA County Top Club title.

The Horton View club beat Witney Town in the final at Shiplake.

In the singles, Mo Cox gave them a good start with a close win 21-20 and in the pairs a good game against a strong team saw Jenny Williams and Helen Young just miss out 16-20. The triple of Gill Hunt, Bev Mc Neil and Carole Galletly won 24-6 and the four of Jill Hart, Jane Williams, Sue Waring and Anne Norton won 19-18, securing the title for the club for the second successive year.
