Central guarantee county title is coming to Banbury

Two teams from Banbury Central are through to the EWBA Championship at Leamington Spa in August where they will be playing in the national fours competition.

The two Central teams will also meet each other in the OWBA final after they emerged victorious in their respective semi-final ties.

Caroline Campion’s team of Pam Shepherd, Gill Sharpe and Carole Galletly beat Gill Lambourne’s four from Oxford University Press in the semi-final by nine shots after receiving a walkover in the quarter-final from Woodstock.

Sue Waring skipped her rink of Mo Cox, Anne Norton and Annie Gilkes to an eight shot victory over last year’s national fours champions Oxford City & County following a convincing win over the Middle Barton’s four in the quarter-final.

Banbury Central beat Witney Town 68-33 in the West Oxon Ladies Bowls League.

Mary Tee with Pam Shepherd Sue Waring and Eloise Jones top scored with a 22-13 win while Ann Norton with Gill Hunt, Pat Tombes and Mo Cox won 18-13.

Caroline Campion with Annie Gilkes, Jill Hart and Jenny Williams lost the last two ends but managed to hang on to win 18-17.
