Marussia’s hopes of competing in the 2015 Formula One season have been dealt a blow after rival teams rejected their request to use their 2014 car.

The Banbury team hope to make a return to the grid under the Manor Grid Racing name after they ceased trading at the end of last year.

It is believed the team wanted to use their MR03 model due to there being no time to build a new car for the opening race in Australia next month. But the request was refused by rival teams at a meeting yesterday (Thursday).

Marussia went into administration in October, and resulted in them missing the final three races of the 2014 season in the USA, United Arab Emirates and Brazil.
