Magnussen, the 24-year-old from Denmark, comes to the Banbury team with two years of Formula One experience, one with McLaren in 2014 and one with Enstone’s Renault team this season. Magnussen finished an impressive second in his Formula One debut at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix.

Magnussen said: “This is a fantastic opportunity and I’m very happy to be a part of Haas F1 Team.

Looking back on Sunday’s frustrating Brazilian Grand Prix, team boss Guenther Steiner said: “It was a disastrous race for us but not a disastrous weekend. Up to Sunday’s race, our weekend was a good one.

“But Romain crashed out on the lap to the grid, so we lost one car even before the start. The conditions were tough out there and they played a role in his exit.

“Esteban had been driving a very good race but then we had issues with electronics and had to retire his car when his MGU-H didn’t work.”
