Lions edge closer to the title after another win

Basement boys Old Edwardians came to the game with plenty of experience and were prepared to make life difficult for Lions.

Although Lions looked comfortable for much of the game, the match started out very close and in the opening exchanges they struggled to make much headway towards the Old Edwardians’ line.

Lions showed great patience and knew that to crack the visitors’ defence they would need to be persistent in their systems.

It looked as though Old Edwardians’ line would hold but, after much probing and testing, the defence started to break following runs from forwards James Burge and Steve Potter.

The space started to open up outside as the beleaguered defence got drawn in.

The first strike came with good hands and an overlap allowing centre Wes Hallam to dot down in the corner.

That was swiftly followed by a try from winger Callum O’Shea. Fielding a clearance kick on the halfway line, he deftly chipped and collected the ball to score a great individual try.

Just before halftime a lapse in Banbury’ concentration allowed Old Edwardians a soft try under their posts.

After the break Lions started to unlock the defence more easily and, with wider passing, managed to run in some easy tries. Jed Boyle, Toby Chapman and O’Shea bagged tries out wide and Tom Tanner scored from a well executed backs’ move.

Old Edwardians managed to score a consolation try towards the end of the game when the play started to get scrappy but Lions never looked to be in any serious danger.
