Kerr salutes players after best ever performance

Saturday’s 33-0 victory against second-placed Earlsdon has put Banbury Bulls nine points clear at the top of Midlands Two West South with five games remaining.

Kerr said: “It’s not over yet and we can still get caught but that was a massive victory for us. To go nine points clear with only five games remaining puts us in a really strong position.

“I hope we can look back at the end of the season and say that was the game which won us the league. But there are still five games left and we must not take our foot off the pedal.

“I told the players after the game that it was the best all round performance from them since I became head coach. I wouldn’t pick out any individuals for special praise, every player was outstanding, but Ed Phillips led by example as captain.

“The main objective was to get on top from the start and make a statement on the pitch. We started both halves exceptionally well and the two quick tries after halftime were massive for us.

“Earlsdon threw everything at us, so to not concede against them and to score 33 points against a team with the best defensive record was immense.

“We were never going to have the ball for 80 minutes and Earlsdon kept going to the end but we made sure we kept it tight.

“There have been games in the past in which we’ve not imposed ourselves and that has happened twice this season, once when we got away with it but also when we didn’t.

“We didn’t start well at Earlsdon but won it and also against Kidderminster when we lost.”
