Irish raider can land the spoils at Wolverhampton

Plumpton passed an 8am inspection but the ground was described as heavy and still waterlogged in places on Sunday morning.

As a result it might be prudent to concentrate on the flat all-weather cards at Kempton and Wolverhampton.

At Dunstall Park, the grey Hab Reeh (2.00) might appreciate this tapeta surface having run well in defeat on Southwell’s fibresand of late. Serena Brotherton is a significant jockey booking in this amateur riders’ event and the eight-year-old has a cracking draw in stall one; do note that Brotherton has ridden the winner of this corresponding race twice in the last four years.

The eye is drawn to the booking of Simon Walker for Irish raider and recent course winner Fairy Foxglove, but that success was over 7f and Hab Reeh gets a narrow vote.

Tony Hamilton rode the filly Jeanie’s Place (2.35) to victory on her racecourse debut at Thirsk back in May but hasn’t been aboard the filly since.

He is reunited with Richard Fahey’s 3-y-old, one of two representatives from the yard, in the claimer and must go close. Adam Kirby rides likely favourite Zeeoneandonly for David Evans and she looks the obvious danger.

David Simcock has his string in excellent form and Wavelet (3.10) has only been raised a couple of pounds for scrambling home at Lingfield by a neck last month over 10f. The step back up to 12f should suit and she can land the hat-trick with Jamie Spencer in the saddle.

Only five go to post for the extended mile handicap but three won last time out and the other pair finished runner up! That said the once raced Nezwaah (3.40) may have been let in lightly from an opening mark of 73 and the money was down first time out when she pulled hard but easily landed the odds.

Zainat looked a different proposition when easily scoring over C&D but he has been raised 8lbs for that success and I am sweet on the chances of Nezwaah although her lack of experience is a concern.

The feature event is the fillies’ handicap over the extended mile and seven of the eight runners hold realistic chances. Abbey Angel (4.10) is 5lbs higher than when scoring readily over C&D last month and a 5lbs rise looks fair. The selection is still well treated on her best form and is another inmate from the yard of Richard Fahey ridden by Tony Hamilton.

At Kempton, Haunted was as green as grass on debut and is sure to come on for that Chelmsford experience. Trainer David Simcock had three entries at the overnight stage but relies on this daughter of Invincible Spirit who attracted market support (9/2) on debut.

That run was only eight days ago however and preference is for the older Southern Storm (2.50) who caught the eye of the local Stewards’ when running third here last month over 7f. This return to a mile will suit, apprentice Patrick O’Donnell keeps the rid and takes off a valuable 7lbs and can break her maiden.

Giovanni Di Bicci landed a gamble here five days ago and his 6lbs penalty is negated by the 7lbs claim of apprentice Lulu Stanford. Connections suggested that the four-year-old had benefitted from a wind op but that big effort was only five days ago and I prefer Pour La Victoire (3.25) stepping back up to a mile having got going too late over 6f here last time. Apprentice George Downing was in the plate when the six-year-old score at Brighton back in August and he has won over today’s trip of a mile in the past.
