Romain Grosjean gave an emphatic performance in his final race for Lotus to take ninth place in Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Frenchman started from 18th on the grid in the final race of the year at Yas Marina Circuit but Enstone team-mate Pastor Maldonado was eliminated on the first lap after an incident with Fernando Alonso.

Grosjean said: “It’s been an emotional journey for me and I’m so happy to be able to reward everyone at Enstone with points in my final race for the team.

“I owe a lot to this team, it really feels like a family to me and I hope to be back one day in the future. This has been the best season of my career.”

Nico Rosberg made it three wins on the spin to clinch victory for Mercedes AMG Petronas in Abu Dhabi.

The German driver pipped Brackley team-mate and world champion Lewis Hamilton at the track where he lost the title last year.

After his sixth win of the year, Rosberg said: “To finish with six poles and three wins in a row is awesome. I am so happy that I found some performance at the end of the season and I also made my peace with this track after the toughest moment of my career here last year, which is a nice feeling.”
