Green catches Banbury off colour to inflict first defeat

Slough inflicted a first defeat of the season on Banbury in Saturday's Home Counties Premier Cricket League clash.

Banbury slumped to a four wicket defeat at White Post Road, where Steven Green took seven wickets in the division one fixture.

Having been put into bat, Banbury struggled throughout their innings as Green did the damage.

After losing Hugo Darby early on, Banbury recovered with Craig Haupt 25 and Kurtis Patterson taking them on to 67-2. But Patterson 46 departed with only three more runs on the board and from then on wickets began to fall at regular intervals.

Ashley Blanchard 28 and Charles Hill 21no rallied and helped Banbury on to 159-8 before the final wicket fell as the hosts finished on 185-8 while Green claimed an impressive 7-52.

In reply, Slough recovered from losing Fahim Qureshi with only 25 runs on the board as Waqas Hussain 73 and Nabil Shah 50 took them on to 135-2.

Banbury enjoyed some belated success as they finally picked up some wickets. But it came too late to alter the outcome as Green and Zaheer Sher saw Slough home in the 33rd over while Lloyd Sabin finsihed with 3-30.
