Wilkin sees Saints fail to capitalise against Telford

Brackley Town boss Kevin Wilkin has seen the improvement in his side but admits it may have come too late.

Saints made it just one defeat in nine Vanarama National League North outings in Tuesday’s stalemate with AFC Telford United. But that wasn’t enough to stop them slipping back into the relegation zone with Lowestoft Town going above them.

Wilkin said: “We’ve improved in defensive areas and not given so many silly goals away recently but on the flip side we’ve struggled to score goals and that was the case against Telford.

“We got into good areas but we lacked the quality to get on the end of the chances and that’s what every team in the country needs.

“The lads have given their all again and we’ve kept a clean sheet, which is good, but we need to score goals. We didn’t do it enough on Saturday and we obviously didn’t do it against Telford.

“We moved the ball really well at times throughout the game but we needed to take one of those half chances and a couple of really good opportunities. Telford came back at us after the restart but we finished stronger at the end.”
